What’s the role?

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Collaboration Systems and Enterprise Tooling team within our Internal IT department. The team is dedicated to delivering the enterprise tools, solutions, and services that enable productivity, efficiency, and a great user experience for all Etsy employees.

The ideal candidate will be capable of leading and working alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, and will bring experience and skills in workflow automation or integration engineering, enterprise SaaSOps, analytics and business intelligence, tool and user lifecycle governance, project management and delivery.

The team provides end-to-end ownership and continuous optimization of critical enterprise SaaS systems used by every Etsy employee in their day to day work e.g. identity and access management, support ticketing, productivity and collaboration tools. They also enable teams across Etsy through various levels of tool and user lifecycle governance, and development of solutions improving productivity, workflow efficiencies, and business insights.

We’re looking for people who share a passion for tackling complexity, coaching and mentoring others, enjoy leading a team alongside contributing to the team’s tactical work, and excel at working with others.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering (IT Business Systems) and the base salary range will be $132,000 - $172,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Enterprise engineers and analysts evaluate, design, and deliver products, tools and services that enhance the efficiency and connectivity of every Etsy employee. The team has a broad set of skills encompassing internal infrastructure, operations, engineering, analytics, and enterprise tools that gives them the flexibility to deliver both 3rd party “off the shelf” products as well as build their own solutions.

We work closely with our internal customers and partner teams to understand their needs, address friction points and provide solutions and services to meet those needs. What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Lead and provide technical direction to a team of engineers and analysts

  • Collaborate with our partner teams to make and drive great decisions that meaningfully and measurably impact business outcomes, and ensure our products and services continue to meet and evolve with the needs of the business.

  • Work with the team to identify and advocate for the most impactful enablement and productivity opportunities

  • Translate opportunities into a compelling strategy, and roadmap in the context of broader organizational strategies and goals

  • Work with the director to optimize our SaaS governance processes and workflows, ensuring that we take a data informed approach to those investments

  • Lead 3rd party solution evaluation, rollout, and ongoing management with the team and other multi-functional teams

  • Support the continued growth of the team’s engineering skills and standard processes

  • Establish a metrics based organization, develop key metrics, and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 2+ years experience managing impactful engineering teams

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and scrum

  • Experience writing quality code using scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript, REST APIs, and serverless or container cloud platforms

  • Experience with and commitment to developing, delivering, and managing solutions applying modern engineering and configuration standard methodologies such as test driven development and IaC

  • Experience in mentoring and technically growing engineers!

  • Understanding how to to translate business logic and high level requirements into solutions

  • Data analysis and manipulation skills for optimization, diagnostics, Important Metrics, and business intelligence, using tools such as SQL, cloud data warehouses, business intelligence platforms and dashboards

  • You are able to communicate technology and product strategy effectively to both internal and external customers and leadership

  • You understand that being an effective engineer is as much about communicating with people and understanding the problem to be solved as it is about writing code

  • You are a strong proponent for documentation and knowledge-sharing with others
