Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Ryan Law NY LLC is a growing New York solo law practice, seeking a reliable and organized part-time legal assistant/paralegal. The role involves assisting with matrimonial law matters, including responding to client inquiries, preparing legal documents, and maintaining client files.


Responsibilities

  • Respond to prospective-client inquiries by telephone and email
  • Follow up with leads and individuals who have completed consultations
  • Schedule consultations and appointments
  • Prepare engagement letters and assist with opening new matters
  • Collect client information and follow up regarding missing documents
  • Prepare basic uncontested-divorce forms and filing packages for attorney review
  • Assist with electronic filing and monitor filing status and court correspondence
  • Maintain organized electronic client files, calendars and task lists
  • Communicate routine status updates to clients
  • Assist with billing, payment follow-up and general administrative tasks
  • Protect confidential and sensitive client information
  • Perform other related legal-assistant and administrative duties as assigned

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
  • Professional, patient and compassionate when communicating with clients
  • Comfortable using Microsoft 365, Outlook, electronic filing systems and cloud-based practice-management software
  • Able to work independently while understanding that all legal work is subject to attorney review and approval
  • Dependable, responsive and able to manage deadlines
  • The employee must reside and perform all work in New York State
  • The employee must provide their own reliable computer, high-speed internet connection and private workspace suitable for handling confidential client information
  • The computer must have a currently supported operating system and appropriate security protection
  • Prior legal-assistant, paralegal or law-office experience preferred
  • New York matrimonial or uncontested-divorce experience strongly preferred
  • Prior experience working securely in a remote law-office environment preferred
